Ron Tanner

Ron is particularly interested in coaching individuals and management teams to raise performance through increased self-awareness and the development of effective relationships, both internally and externally.  He specialises in the facilitation of the personal transition that accompanies business change and development.  He has been an equity partner in Shirlaws UK since its inception in 2003.

Coaching is a long way from Chartered Accounting, which he was engaged in prior to joining Shirlaws but the skills he acquired there have enabled him to coach both commercial and cultural frameworks to clients with lasting success.  He has been involved in the personal development industry for over 20 years, both as a professional advisor and a participant.

The bottom line of active listening

We spend a lot of our days talking. How much time do we spend listening? We all know listening is a great skill to have but how do we increase our capability in this area?

On the role of the Warrior in business

In my last post I wrote about being a facilitator. I'm fascinated by the various roles each of us plays in business.  The obvious next step would be to write about the role of a leader or an entrepreneur, but… who wants to read yet another post on that? 

On that basis I began to look for the more unusual roles and remembered in my early 20s reading a book by Carlos Castaneda which described the four qualities of a Warrior.  

What is a facilitator?

In my role as a business coach I spend quite a bit of time facilitating workshops, business intelligence groups and peer to peer learning sessions.

Over the years I have experimented with a number of different facilitation styles and what follows is a summary of what I’ve learned. 

  1. The set up.
